Kololo Game Reserve is situated in Limpopo, the northernmost province of South Africa, in the heart of the protected Waterberg nature area, close to the village of Vaalwater. From Vaalwater it is another 36 km drive of which 29 km on an untarred road. From Oliver Tambo International Airport it is about 3,5 hours’ drive.
Kololo Game Reserve is a prime example of responsible tourism in action. Located in South Africa, the reserve is committed to preserving the local wildlife and their habitats while also providing a unique and memorable experience for visitors. Kololo Game Reserve is a member of Fair Trade, which is an international certification that ensures ethical and sustainable practices are in place for both tourists and the local community. Fair Trade ensures that the local community benefits from tourism and that the environment is protected. The reserve offers eco-friendly accommodations and activities such as wildlife safaris, bird watching, and guided walks that educate visitors about the importance of conservation. By choosing to stay at Kololo Game Reserve, tourists can experience the beauty of Africa while also supporting responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
Kololo Game Reserve is child friendly; children of all ages are welcome! Kololo is home to the ‘safe animals’; the Big Five animals (Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo) are safely behind the gate of Welgevonden Game Reserve. Kololo is therefore the perfect place for a family holiday. While the kids are on the Kids safari expedition, the parents can relax at the pool or take a walk on the reserve.
The marked paths allow you to walk and bike freely across the reserve, coming eye to eye with the animals. You can also explore the reserve by car: with a safari truck you can take a tour, guided by one of our experienced rangers. He or she will tell you all there is to know about bird species, animals, vegetation and many other interesting “nice-to-knows” about the African bush. The open safari truck seats 10 guests and has a roof to protect against sun and rain. With this game drive truck, we also do Big Five Game Drives in Welgevonden Game Reserve: your best chance to see elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo, and leopards.
The reserve covers 3,000 hectares and is malaria-free and child-friendly. It owes its name to the Kololo, the Sotho name for Klipspringer, a small antelope species. We carry the Kololo with pride in our logo. The reserve offers a wide variety of nature and animals. Rocky hills, rivers, forests, and savannah are home to giraffe, kudu, impala, baboon, zebra, warthog, eland, birds (more than 300 species) and much more.
A spacious and luxurious, very private villa with a separate dining room and living room.
I love Kololo so much. This is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. The accommodation is very clean, the food is great and the staff who take care of Kololo are wonderful and so friendly I’ve been intouch with them for years. Thank you for the amazing experience. I can’t wait to be back.
We had a great stay at Kololo game reserve. We visited Kololo with our 3 kids (4, 2 and 0 y/o) and the manager Tanya and the staff did everything to make our stay as great as possible. The accomodation was clean and big including a kitchen and living room. We did 2 game drives and Kololo arranged a babysitter for our baby so we could do the game drive as relaxed as possible with the 2 other kids. Very family friendly and a must do if you are visiting South Africa with kids!
Perfect place with incredible staff and best ranger (Jo). We went for walk game tour in the private reserve where we saw plenty (by ourselves) and with Jo in the big 5 reserve for a 3 hours walk! Unique experience. The lodge is amazing, very nature respectful, very comfortable without being pretentious. Super flexible with breakfast hours and so on. Food is also delicious with a home made taste and good products.
