Kololo offers training positions for student guides. These students work with us to gain experience in guiding and assist in the research and volunteer program. Below an introduction for each student.
Cannon Winkler
After graduating university in the USA, Cannon came to South Africa to pursue his dream of working with African wildlife. He has a passion for ecology and loves exploring the relationships that connect the diverse number species that inhabit the bush. Though he has a particular soft spot for primates and especially enjoys watching the Chacma baboons as they make mischief around the lodge.

Stijn van Stiphout
From mover in ’s-Hertogenbosch to field guide in the bush
After working as a mover for the last 3 years, this year I decided to take the plunge and follow my passion, working with wild animals. For me there was no better place than South Africa. After completing the field guide study at Ecotraining for the first half year, I am now following an internship at Kololo game reserve.
At the beginning of the training there was nothing more beautiful than to see elephants and leopards and other big 5 animals, but the more time you spend in the bush , the more you will appreciate the smaller and special animals. A good example was the aardvark we saw at night when we were celebrating my birthday or the aardwolf we saw during a night drive. Hopefully, more of these special moments may follow in the future.
