Kids Safari Expedition!
The Kids Safari on Kololo transforms your children into true rangers. Together with the real ranger they go on a safari expedition in one of our safari game viewers to learn everything about the bush, animals, birds and reptiles. All kids receive a safari pack which includes juice, some snacks and an interactive safari booklet. They can use this booklet while they observe, learn and play out on the safari expedition.
Kololo Game Reserve is child friendly; children of all ages are welcome! Kololo is home to the ‘safe animals’; the Big Five animals (Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo) are safely behind the gate of Welgevonden Game Reserve. Kololo is therefore the perfect place for a family holiday. While the kids are on the Kids safari expedition, the parents can relax at the pool or make a walk on the reserve.
Bushveld expedition with a qualified ranger
A qualified ranger takes the children out on safari and will teach them all about nature in a fun and interactive way. Various activities are combined making the expedition even more exciting.
- The ranger teaches the kids about tracks and tracking : how to identify an antelope track; how to recognise baboons, monkeys, predators, and aardvark burrows and many other interesting things to know.
- Basic birding and the use of binoculars and a bird book: we search for any interesting bird and use the binoculars and bird book to identify different species of birds.
- Some of the animals we may encounter include: Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Baboons, Kudu, Wildebeest and if very lucky we may even see the animal that the lodge is named after – KOLOLO (the Sotho name for Klipspringer) which, as its name suggests, lives in a rocky environment.
- Learn how to tell if it is a male or female and if the animal prefers to live alone or in groups, and much more!
The ranger teaches the kids all sorts of interesting facts about these different animals with the help of the booklet. This is a really fun way to learn about the bush and the wilderness of Kololo Game Reserve and from experience we found that the perfect length of the safari is one and a half hours. Welcome aboard, explorers!
The ranger guiding this activity is also in charge of the regular game drives. Therefore the kids safari is not conducted during game drive hours.
(All of our other activities are available for families with children. The parents can join the kids safari if there is space available).
